Hello everyone, I've got similar problem,I logged in first time with default user ID and Password i.e.,cisco then I did wr erase and reloaded the router but I didn't change the one-time password in ISR 2911.Now its asking for user name and passworkd and cisco doesn't work. Now from ROMMON mode if I change to 0*2142 and reset it will again come back to ROMMON mode. From ROMMON mode if I type boot will come back to normal mode and ask for username and password. so I'd be very grateful if anyone can help me.
Thanks.

Hi,
The password recovery on 2911 series should prevent the router from asking you any password. If it is not effective then I am afraid you have not performed it correctly. Please follow the instructions in the following document very closely
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/products/ps5854/products_password_recovery09186a0080b34901.shtml
Especially, the confreg command shall be input as confreg 0x2142, not confreg 0*2142 as you indicated in your original post.
Best regards,
Peter

Hello,
Yes, that is most probably the cause. The 'x' sign in the 0x2142 does not stand for multiplication but rather signifies that the number is given in hexadecimal, and must be written as literal 'x'.
Best regards,
Peter

Hi Peter,
Thanks for the response. I guess I gave the input wrong as I was giving confreg 0*2142. As you suggested will try with confreg 0x2142 on Monday.
I will update you if I'm successful.
Thanks

Heloo Peter,
0x2142 did the magic....Thanks once again. I used to think "x" stands for multiplication that's why was trying with " * ".

Rooland
