OSPF in VRF goes down ”Shutdown”

Dhari Kh Abedula

I have VRF name TEST  tied with Tunnel interface and this Tunnel using for DMVPN .

I used OSPF in same VRF as route protocol

I add one commands under OSPF 1 VRF TEST

The command was ”redestrubution eigrp 123 subnet” To test something. After few minutes I delete this command by using

”No redestrubution eigrp 123 subnet”

After deleting command the whole OSPF went Down. I check the add under Ospf domain ” Shutdown ”!

it is very strange to me!

any one have the same problem before ?

It was ASR 1000 Router .

Router ospf 1 vrf TEST

redestrubution eigrp 123 subnet

exit

Router ospf 1 vrf TEST

No redestrubution eigrp 123 subnet

exit

Show run | Section OSPF

Router ospf 1 vrf TEST

Shutdown

exit

Hello,

DMVPN means hub and spoke...can you post the full configs of both ?

Hi

You're saying that just doing no redistribution of eigrp under ospf added the command shutdown?

What ios version are you using?
Can you post a detailed configuration regarding your interfaces and routing protocols?

Thanks
Francesco

Yes, this is what happens to me , I will check the module and update the question .
Thanks for you help ..

The original post tells us that

I add one commands under OSPF 1 VRF TEST

and then the original poster removed that command. So now the OSPF section has only the router ospf command and no other command indicating any interface or any action. I am not surprised that in that condition the protocol would be shutdown. It has nothing to do and no reason why it should be active.

Hello

here I go again with assumption but “if” ospf is applied at an interface level then removing the redistribution from the ospf stanza should not shut down the process?

I agree with you about these pesky assumptions. You assume that perhaps there was an interface statement enabling OSPF. I assumed that the original post was literally true that there was only a single OSPF command. And neither of us knows for sure what the situation really is. So the best answer to the original poster is that we need more information to be able to give good answers to the question.

I still have Networks running in this VRF OSPF Domain when the the OSPF goes shutdown .

Yes there is ospf config under Tunnel interface, as I mentioned the router is DMVPN Hub .

it is ospf under tunnel interface config .
Did you mean it is normal goes down if there is no ospf config under interface mode ?

For me, this isn't normal. I tested with CSR1000v and other platforms with IOS-XE (but not ASR1k).
I had eigrp and ospf configured. When I remove redistribute eigrp, the ospf process doesn't go down (shutdown mode).

What's your exact config? and what version are you using?

Can you configure back the ospf, make sure everything works fine and then remove the redistribution eigrp into ospf to see if it goes back in shutdown mode?

Thanks
Francesco

This is an old version. When you have this ospf process shutdown, do you see any logs?
I'll try to get one downgrade and test that but in the meantime, can you maybe upgrade it with a recommended version and try again?

Thanks
