Problem discovering Cisco 891 router after changing VLAN ip address on router

To anyone

I am switching out our old WRVS4400 router to the Cisco 891.

having a problem configuring the Cisco 891 router.

I changed the VLAN port on the 891 from 10.10.10.1 to 192.168.2.1 and the ip address saves but when I try to rediscover it through the CCP to the new Ip address 192.168.2.1 I get the message discovery failed. The subnet mask I used is 255.255.255.0  The only thing connected to the 891 router is our linksys 48 port switch which is SL248G and my laptop is connected to the switch. The port its connected to is FE Lan 0

How do discover the 891 so I can do further configuration and to enable the FE8 port for using it for our interent conneciton?

Hope the configuration at 891 is not changing to old IP address. If not, then it looks like CCP or router response to CCP requests issue.

Though it may not be the root cause, can you please remove HTTP config (necessary for CCP) and re-enter at 891? It's just a trial and error method to observe any bug.

Hi Andre,

Can you see if the router is reachable from your PC ?

Check if the telnet access to your router works.

if I plug my laptop to the 891 router I am not able to access it through the CCP and Telnet.

But if I assign an ip address to my laptop 192.168.2.108 subnet 255.255.255.0 then I can access it through telnet and CCP.

my laptop OS is Windows 7 32bit and I tried using a Windows 7 64bit laptop also.

Hi,

So when host has staic ip it's ok then I suppose it was failing when dhcp addressing?

Regards.

Alain.

yes. So basically what happen last week during the night I replaced our old router. I unplugged the network cable that was connected from the 48 port switch to the old router to the Cisco 891 on port FE0. I plugged my laptop into the 48 port switch and used the CCP and it would not discover the 891 router. I wasn't able to ping the 891 router. The IP address on the Vlan1 is 192.168.2.1.

I tried to gave my laptop a IP address and subnet 255.255.255.0 and I could not discover the Cisco 891.

But when I bring the router back to my desktop and plug my laptop directly into the Cisco 891 router and give it an IP address and subnet I am able to discover the router.

Need help on this since I don't want to take down the network again in the office and it doesn't work since I had to kick people out during the night.

The switch is a 48 port managed switch. The ip is 192.168.2.5

Default Gateway on the switch is 192.168.2.1

Subnet mask is 255.255.255.0

Address mode is stastic.

Well solved the problem, Used CCP express and restore back to Router default and erased everything.

Now I am able to access the router using the 192.168.2.1 address that I wanted.

When all else fails start from scratch...
