Hello,
I have a few remote sites that we would like to optimize VOIP traffic in each one. The sites are connected via MPLS network and are configured so:
MPLS > Cisco 2911 router > Cisco 3750 stack.
We have QOS enabled and applied to the WAN interface of the router. On the switch, we have auto qos enabled on any ports with phones. I also confirmed our telco is running QOS on our MPLS. My main question is do I need to apply QOS to the LAN interface of our router? Or does it only need to be applied to the WAN interface?
Thanks
David Warren

Hello David!
i would say not as the auto qos is marking / classifiying on the switchports already
Not sure regards mpls i rhink the label paxket does carry a 3 bit flag for qos suppose you could have a word with your isp to see if your qos is being marked correctly for them. or someone else on csc to validate that.

Usually the WAN link is the bottleneck. If true for you, you may not need QoS for the LAN interface, but may need it on the WAN interface.
If the WAN link is a bottleneck, you often need QoS in both directions. You can easily configure QoS on your WAN egress, but WAN ingress is normally far side's WAN egress, which doesn't work for multipoint, if your MPLS is so setup. Then you need to work with the QoS capabilities of your MPLS cloud, if any.

Thanks for the reply guys. It sounds like I don't need any QOS on our LAN interface, which makes sense. We have QOS on the switch ports then on the WAN interface of the remote site and the WAN interface of the other site the traffic is destined to. I confirmed our telco is doing QOS over our MPLS link so I think we are optimized as much as we can at the moment.
Thanks
