Redundancy issue..

Hi all, I have a pair of C7500 running redundant links (sub interfaces carrying multiple vrf traffics) via ospf and vrrp to ensure high availability and seamless data transfer. The router setup was such that one will be active and the other is standby. The problem is the significant time taken for the standby router to take over is taking more than 10 secs which is quite long. Is it because of the choice of routing and vrrp? What is the most efficient way of having a seamless data transfer with this kind of setup? Awaiting your feedback urgently...

Similar to HSRP, VRRP should also use a keepalive which I believe is 1 second by default, unless u have tweaked it to something higher. I guess for the backup to switch to active, it will take atleast 3 seconds (by default) + time for convergence of routing protocol. Probably you could reduce the convergence time on ospf, by making the active/standby routers like a DR /BDR in a LAN environment.
