Serial to Ethernet terminal server

Hi,

I would like to know if its possible to set up a 1700 router as a termainal server that will allow RAW Async data to be streamed.

I could buy a dedicated terminal server however I have a few 1700 lying around spare and someone mentioned to me thats its possible to use the AUX port on the router as the interface from the COMM1 port of a server. If possible is there anyone that can show me an example config so I can rip it off.

Regards

Craig.

AUX port can definitely be used as a terminal service port, You can use it to reverse telnet from the router to another device. Are you trying to access the com port (console) of the server by first telneting into the 1700 and then using the AUX port to access the console ?

I am wondering if I pictured this right!

yes, that would work. I am using a 2511 and the async octal cables.

Thanks for replying.

I doubt that I would be allowed to use a product thats EOL for to get this sorted. The Server that this has to connect to just sends streaming data out of the Comm port. Its looking like I need to buy a dedicated terminal server for this.
