I thought CTRL Z would quit out of a bad DNS request when you type a command in to iOS that thinks it is a DNS Name, I know you can disable this by typing a command but is there a way to quit out of it, as and when you type this by mistake?

Thanks John, i thought i missed one small detail.
You can avoid everyting by configuiring no ip domain-lookup.

Thanks CTRL Shift 6 seems to do the trick for cancelling the bad DNS request.
