theoretical question in Wan and i wish i can have an answer for it !

Hi ,

i just want to know .

 

the questrion is relative to PAP/CHAP.

 

why the passwords used  must be the same for CHAP , whereas the passwords can be different for PAP ????

 

i can do the labs , but .......i just want to know why ?

In fact, both PAP and CHAP can use unidirectional authentication, so it depends from the authentication type that you use that will define if you need both or just one.

CHAP has three authentication types:

Both, by the peer and by this end.

PAP has two:

Unidirectional and bidirectional
