wan optimization

we are branch office in Malaysia and need to connect to Japan data center, do we have to buy a wan optimization (riverbed apppliance) sitting between my branch core switch and branch checkpoint firewall?

our LAN is 100Mb, but MPLS WAN connection is 2 Mb.

if you were using an RB it would need to be at both sides anyway to have any impact as it caches tcp both ends , it will help but there not a necessity , you could use a very strict qos policy as well that will help but not as good as an RB

how about bluecoat, also two sides need to be installed?

no bluecoat does not have to be both sides from what I have seen
