Which router capable running 200mbit via GRE tunnel

Hey guys,

I'm looking for a router which is capable to blow around 200mbit via a GRE tunnel.

This is necessary to connect to Level3 dDoS scrambling service.

I was thinking of a ISR 4331 with performance license installed. Will this model fit or do you have any ideas?

Searched around and only found old posting for 7206VXR which is way to big and old, on the other side, newer router are way to expensive (like ASR).

Thankful for every hint! :)

Michael

200 Mbps total, or 200 Mbps duplex (i.e. 400)?

For 200 Mbps (duplex), you might be find with a 3925E.  See attachment for performance info for Cisco's various ISRs.

GRE doesn't add too much to the CPU load unless you fragment packets, then the CPU load increases a lot.

It's about 150 - 200mbit in one direction.

The 3925 would only fit if I buy a refurbished version, since the 4331 is half the price.

Thanks!

It's not unusual that newer platforms offer more performance for less $.

If you can find the PPS ratings for the 4K ISRs, you can determine cost per PPS, and compare to the earlier ISR models.

It's very possible a 4K is a more price effective buy.

Thanks Joseph! I'll try the 4331-SEC with performance upgrade.
