One of my students has changed the config register on our 1601 to 2D32 which means I am unable to console into it. There are no other settings on the router so telenetting in is a no. Is there a reset switch anywhere? I believe these settings change the module rate to 38400 but am unable to connect via console.

You need to follow the procedure to password recover the unit. Reset the unit and BREAK it with the BREAK key sequence. Then in ROMMON mode type confreg 0x2142 then type reset. The router will bypass all old register info and reset. From their you can change the config register back to 0x2102 from the config mode of the router...Good Luck...

Hi
You are correct that the baudrate will be 38.4K.You should be able to connect via console. Can you try following,
Remove the flash PC card and then try.The router will not get the flash, it will boot into ROMMON.If still u cant get through, try all the possible baud rates from 9.6 to 11.5K.
Cant gurantee, but hope this helps.

Have you ever seen Boson Config-register calculator, pretty good software.
Check the results for your settings:
NVRAM config will be used
Break key Disabled, after IOS load
Console Baud: 38400
Use filename: cisco2-4000 for tftpboot (on 4000 series)
Hope this help a bit.
