A quick one.. on Cisco website on the 4900M and the 4948s results in differences in the support of the number of spanning tree instances:
This one (table 2) says 1500 and 3000: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps6021/product_data_sheet0900aecd8017a72e.html
Where as this one (table 4) says 4000: http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps6021/ps9310/Data_Sheet_Cat_4900M.html
