Hello,
I am a field engineer for a relatively large organization. I manage a campus LAN of approximately 6500 end users. Our entire LAN runs through 1 outer router to WAN circuit and company is upgrading that circuit from 1G to 10G. I’ve received the plans from the infrastructure engineers and while the WAN circuit is indeed being upgraded to 10G, everything on the LAN side of the outer router remains at 1G or below. I don’t want to “stir the pot” and raise my concerns but I feel like we are not going to see much benefit at all from this “upgrade” in terms of speed/bandwidth. Perhaps someone smarter than myself can explain how this is going to improve our network? Seems to me it’s just going to be one big bottleneck at 1 single point of failure. Responses welcome.
