Problem

During ACS upgrade user gets following error :- "% Manifest file not found in the bundle"

Here's an example:-

acs/admin# patch install 5-1-0-44-4.tar.gpg FTP

Do you want to save the current configuration ? (yes/no) [yes] ?

Generating configuration...

Saved the running configuration to startup successfully

% Manifest file not found in the bundle

defrakvlpcacs01/admin#

Reasons

Here are the common reasons for this error:-

  1. Copying with tftp can be a problem with larger files.
  2. Using the file with .tar extension.
  3. Incorrect command.

Resolution

  1. Use FTP instead.
  2. Rename .tar to .gpg. For example :-  5-2-0-26-1.tar.tar to 5-2-0-26-1.tar.gpg
  3. Command should be:
    • acs/admin# acs patch install 5-1-0-44-4.tar.gpg FTP ---------> Correct Command
    • acs/admin# patch install 5-1-0-44-4.tar.gpg FTP --------------> Incorrect command

Thanks for this, it really helped. Seem obvious in hindsight

Just a note, you've missed "repository" from the "Correct Command", it should be:

acs patch install 5-1-0-44-4.tar.gpg repository FTP

(Assuming your repository is called FTP anyway)

Thanks again.

Useful article. This catches me out all the time. One thing to note, the command is actually:

acs/admin# acs patch install 5-1-0-44-4.tar.gpg repository FTP (where FTP is the repository created on the appliance)

Also, another reason this can fail is the downloaded file is corrupted. If I try to download the file with Safari, it is always corrupt. No idea why.

yes, I agree. With this error, it's recommended to validate the checksum of the downloaded file.

Check /storedata:
4.9G  3.0G  1.7G  65% /storeddata

After reloading the ACS:

4.9G  683M  4.0G  15% /storeddata

Found while upgrading from 5.3 to 5.4.
