Deleting a user seems straight forward, right?

Cisco Vulnerability Management (formerly Kenna Security) customers often need to remove users from their platform due to organizational changes.  Here are a few things to think about before clicking the Delete User button.

  • Does this user perform key functions for the team using their API key?
  • Does the organization rely on metrics from this user?
  • Does the Cisco Vulnerability Management
    instance use a Virtual Tunnel?
  • What kind of access does this user have today?  Read-only, Admin, Custom Role etc.

Things that happen when a user is deleted from the platform:

  • The API key associated with that user is deleted.
  • Dashboard views, including shared views owned by that user, will be deleted; risk meters will not.

Things you can do to ensure a user can be deleted without impact:

  • Make sure the user’s API key is not used to run the Virtual Tunnel.
  • Make sure any scripts that are needed are not reliant on that API key.
  • Any dashboard views you want to save must be re-created and shared from another user's account.
  • Pay attention to the pop-up notifications in the platform before you perform a user deletion.

Cisco Vulnerability Management is exploring the addition of a feature to transfer any dashboard views over to the new user to ensure easy transition from an old user to the next. If this is something that you would like to see, please let us know how this will help you in the comments below.
