Core issue

These situations can cause the exp timeout error message:

  • The FTP server used is in passive mode.

  • There is an incorrect FTP server configuration.

  • An anonymous login is used.

  • A Microsoft FTP server or Terrapin FTP server is used.

Resolution

To resolve this problem, perform these steps:

  1. Install the appropriate FTP software.

    For more information, refer to the Supported FTP Servers section of IDS Device Manager Configuration Tasks.

  2. Create a service account in the Intrusion Detection System (IDS).

    For more information, refer to the Creating a Service Account section of  Basic configuration of IDS Using the CLI.
  3. Login to the service account.

  4. Use FTP or Serial Control Protocol (SCP) to manually copy the update to the service account home directory.

  5. Accept the sensor Secure Shell (SSH) key as a server key: "ssh host-key".

  6. Perform the usual upgrade procedure with the upgrade scp:// command.

    After this command is issued, the user is forced to provide the necessary details to securely copy the file.
