How do I connect to the console port on a PIX/ASA?

Resolution

1. Use a flat rollover cable (typically light blue, black or green) and insert it in the console port on the PIX. Do not use a crossover cable.  
      
2. Take the other end and connect it to an RJ-45 db-9 adaptor.  
      
3. Connect the adaptor to the comm port on your PC.  
      
4. Start Windows Hyperterminal and configure it to connect out the comm port with the following settings.  
      
   • Bits per sec : 9600
   • Data bits : 8
   • Parity : none
   • Stop bits : 1
   • Flow control : none
