Core issue
This problem occurs due to the presence of Cisco bug ID CSCsd00933.
The Intrusion Detection System (IDS) Sensor App process periodically aborts, and the sensing interface goes down. After an upgrade from version 5.0.5 to 5.1.1 using the IDS Device Manager (IDM), seven or eight sensors periodically abort. Also, the Analysis Engine does not run.
Resolution
As a workaround, perform either of these steps:
- Reboot the sensor.
- Download and upgrade the software version to 5.1(2).
