Mission

To bring together network enthusiasts in the Silicon Valley in an open forum and to provide them an enviroment that promotes learning, access to like-minded peers and Cisco resrouces for the purposes of networking technology growth.

Execution

  • We provide an environment that encourages open discussion of technical issues and the building of learning groups.
  • We provide access to eqiupment for "hands-on" experience and practical application.
  • We provide industry insight and continuing education through presentations, case studies, and demonstrations by industry   professionals including Cisco subject matter experts.
  • We promote SVCUG members to "step up to the plate" by becoming leaders, mentors, and presentors in the group.

 Dan Segovia

Dan is both the SVCUG President and it's primary Cisco sponsor. Dan has been a Cisco employee since 2000 but has been an SVCUG member since 1998. Being a Cisco employee, Dan is in the unique position to help Cisco give back to the community by running the Cisco User Group (CUG) and by furthering its development.

Dan is also working with the Cisco Learning Network to develop new opportunities for CUGs around the world on his Cisco User Groups Intl site.

Dan is a Technical Leader in Cisco's High End Routing & Optical Group and is dedicated to keeping the SVCUG both healthy and growing

Luis Chanu

Luis grew up in the Silicon Valley, and has over 25 years of networking, server, and IT experience. While in high school, Luis started his own consulting company, On Site Network Solutions, and began helping companies through their IT challenges. Over the years, Luis has architected many Novell NetWare, Novell GroupWise, Microsoft Windows, and Cisco networks.

Luis is the President of On Site Network Solutions, Inc., which has been going strong for over 20 years. He provides consulting services to many companies in the area of network architecture/design, security, and trouble-shooting, and has traveled around the world providing these services.

Luis’s real-world Cisco experience includes 26xx/36xx/28xx/38xx/72xx routers, PIX and ASA firewalls, VPN Concentrators, LWAPP wireless, Server Load Balancing, along with the complete line of Catalyst switches, with a great deal of experience with the Catalyst 6500-E series of switches. Luis has architected several corporate networks that have included Network Edge/DMZ Designs, Secure Wireless, QoS, 10Gb/s links, SANs, and DMVPN technologies.

Luis is one of the founding members of the Silicon Valley Cisco Users Group, is still very active with the group, and is well known for his very detailed presentations. You can also often find Luis at the Saturday labs, helping members advance their networking knowledge and answering questions.

When Luis isn’t helping customers with their networks, he’s often dabbling with his own network, learning how to fly, playing tennis, or teaching.

Salman Asadullah

Salman Asadullah is a Distinguished Engineer and CTO of Americas Partners Organization at Cisco who also serves as co-chair and adviser for many notable industry organizations including IPv6 Forum Fellow and Broadband Forum Ambassador. As a recognized expert within Cisco and the industry, Salman has been working on large-scale SP and Enterprise networks and technologies for over two decades. Salman is a frequent speaker at key industry events and conferences and represents Cisco in industry panel discussions and technical platforms as an adviser. Salman is also a returning top rated speaker at Cisco's user conference, CiscoLive.

Salman influences technology directions and decisions with Cisco business units and customers, partners and Internet community at large. Salman is a co-author and contributor of multiple patents and standardization activities at IETF, BBF, IPv6 Forum, SCTE, Cablelabs, ETSI NFV and ONF. Salman has produced several technical articles, white papers, as well as three Internetworking books, Deploying IPv6 in Broadband Access Networks, PDIO of the IPT Networks, and Cisco CCIE Fundamentals: Network Design & Case Study.

Salman has worked in various capacities for Cisco, from Services, Engineering, to Field organizations. In recent years Salman has been working on IPv6, DC, DevOps, Network Programmability, Cloud, SDN and NFV Deployments, Adoption and Enablement, Global Partners and Services Readiness, Mentoring, Knowledge Transfer, Product Development, Intellectual Property, Publications and Industry Activities.

Salman is a Cisco Certified Internet Expert (CCIE) and holds a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Arizona and an M.S. in Electrical Engineering from Kansas.

 

David Powers

David Powers started the Silicon Valley Cisco User Group in the fall of 1998. David wanted to advance his Cisco learning and did so by bringing together people who shared his goals. David was responsible for "roughing" the first years and establishing the SVCUG as a thriving and functioning group. Thanks to David's vision and effort, many Bay Area professionals have gone on to achieving their Cisco goals.
