Hi all,
I've had a 10-user, base-license, ASA5505-BUN-K9 that I bought new for nearly 6 years now.
Like the title says, I've bought at least 2 SmartNet contracts in the past, but have been solo for the past few years.
I love the unit. I like learning on it. It is running ASA 9.2.4 and ASDM 7.6.1.
I am simply trying to find out that if I buy a used or refurbished working AIP-SSC-5 IDS/IPS module from a place like ebay to play with, can I potentially get it up and running if I buy a year's worth of SmartNet contract? Will that contract allow me to get the tools to have at it?
Will a SmartNet renewal for an ASA5505 work in essence like it did with the ones I bought several years ago, or are there some significant limitations to the benefits and features these days due to the end-of-life nature of the unit?
I would have love to get straightforward, forthcoming answers from CISCO sales chat, on what seems to me a simple question.
I feel like a Catch-22 could come about. "Sorry, you need to buy Smart-Net to be entitled to such technical answers. Oh, great, thank you for buying Smart-Net. You shouldn't have necessarily bought it, because, no, it won't work. You could have saved the trouble and money if you asked up front."
Thank you,
Brian
