Connection failed: Cisco AnyConnect VPN client to RV325 VPN router

Hi there,

I recently purchased a Cisco RV325 and I am trying to setup IPSec VPN on it so I can VPN into the machine from the outside. I am following the setup steps at this Cisco video

https://vimeo.com/110309065

When the video sets up the client they are using VPN client 5.0.x. When I attempted to download that client there was an end-of-life message and the website at:

https://software.cisco.com/download/release.html?mdfid=281940730&catid=268438162&os=Windows&softwareid=282364316&release=5.0.07.0410&rellifecycle=&relind=AVAILABLE&reltype=latest

said to get Cisco AnyConnect 3.x instead. I have downloaded that on Windows and tried to connect to via VPN and I am getting under Message History:

"Connection attempt has failed".

Is there any way to get more information about why the connection is failing? I would expect it to get to the username and password entry field but I am not seeing that dialog come up or a way for me to put in the group name as is shown in the video with the Cisco 5.x client.

Thanks,

Jeff

Jeff,

Hi - the RV320/RV325 routers do not support the AnyConnect client at this time. AnyConnect is an SSL-based vpn client rather than IPSec. The only SSL VPN supported by the RV320/RV325 routers is a browser-based virtual passage which at this point is limited to 32-bit machines. It is my understanding that a firmware maintenance release is schedule for some time in the future to support 64-bit.

The link below shows how to set up the SSL VPN.

Your options at this point are to use Shrewsoft or Greenbow (also in video you referenced) IPSec VPN clients or the Cisco EZVPN client which is end-of-life but you should be able to download it if you have a service contract.

The other option would be to use the PPTP VPN server.

Hope this helps.
