RV220W - Wireless Transmit Power

Hi,

Hopefully someone can offer some advice.

I've just got the RV220W and navigating through the menu's I found the Transmit Power value in the wireless settings.

I live in a house that has walls 4-5ft thick solid stone so obviously there are some black spots in the wireless range. Would upping this value help improve the wireless distance?

Currently on Channel 6 (2.4) Mixed mode N

Look forward to any advice you can give.

Thanks

Danny

Danny,

I do believe the default settings are Max but even if you were able to increase it , the radio waves still wouldn't make it through 5ft think solid stone walls. you need several AP's throughout your wireless infrastructure to cover your dead zones.

Jasbryan,

Thank you for the quick response.

Didn't want to tweak this setting and break anything

As for the 5ft think walls, well, it was worth a shot....i've been looking at adding additional AP's but I was hoping for the 'quick fix'.

Thanks again

Danny

Yeah unfortunately the 5ft thick stone walls kills radio waves, but again you can try moving db level up on the router by 5 and see if it will allow you to save it...again i think default setting are max but just try it , it won't break anything.

It allowed me to change the value up to 25 but didn't really do anything performance wise or distance!

You may want to think about installing Ethernet cables in your house.

Yeh in ideal circumstances I would without a seconds thought, moving house soon so no point at the moment putting the effort in! New house will be cabled through!

Try homeplugs then I've found these work quite well where wifi doesn't.

Regards Simon

if only things were that simple, ring wires don't cross areas and jumping across the rings isn't possible either!

I'll work something out....even if it costs a new house
