Upgrading Router BEFSR41 -> RV042 for speed

Bruce Brayton

A customer has a small SBS2008 network with 5 users.  Have Comcast cable running at a good 13mb download.  However not seeing good speed at workstations.

Currently have LinkSys BEFSR41 router that was in place.

Would updating to an RV042 be a better choice to pass along some speed?

Is there any alternatives or other things I should look at?

Thanks

Bruce

Well I can't really speak to the througput of the BEFSR41 but there are some throughput numbers at the link I posted to you earlier.  You would have to test the througput yourself on the BEFSR41 and compare those results to those on that link.

Bruce,

     The Cisco Small Business RV042 router has been a good choice for small business networks for several years now.  It can provide many additional features important to a small business that the Linksys consumer gear does not provide (i.e., VPN capability, dual WAN ports, etc.).  You can find a third party review for it on the SmallNetBuilder website here.  There are some throughput test data available there as well.

     Likewise we have several other Cisco Small Business routers available with many other features it just really depends on what your customer's needs are for their network (wireless, SSL-VPN, IPS/IDS, Content Filtering, Email protection, etc.).  You can browse through the available devices on our Small Business website at:  www.cisco.com/go/smb.

Hope this helps,

Glenn

We have other customers using RV042, as we use that as our standard when connecting to SBS2003 or SBS2008 servers for small biz 5-25 users.

Can I expect more internet throughput (speed) when connected to nice fast cable modem than the BEFSR41?

or would you recommend a different product for speed throughput?

Bruce
