Has anyone got a 5428 connected to a Thunder 9570. I have configured luns, etc on the HDS, but the cisco does not seem to discover any devices. I have set the ports to 2G, F-types.

thanks

Darren

yes, We have a 9570 in our Sydney TAC lab we use to support customers. Sounds like you are having an issue with configuration of the LUN Security & LUN Management features on the 9570. We also had to upgrade the HDS to microcode 0653/E

Here are some related notes copied from a page we have for our lab in Sydney:

Host access is controlled in the 9570v when either the "LUN Security" option OR the "LUN Management" option has been enabled. You cant run both together. These are licensed options that are enabled by using a serial# based unlocking key. The "LUN Management" feature supercedes "LUN Security" feature because it now allows definition of multiple host storage groups per physical array controller port. You have to remove "LUN Security" before adding "LUN Management".

With "LUN Management" each HSG can be set with different SCSI level parameters. In "LUN Security" the controller port will behave the same for all the hosts connecting to that port, regardless of whether some are Unix and others are Windows. And most importantly, all hosts will see the same LUNs. So "LUN Securty" aint that flexible, it just lists the hosts that can access that controller port.. E.g all hosts permitted on this port will see LUNs 1-10. At least with "LUN Management" we can divide up the LUNs into different HSGs that allow us to let host1 see only LUN 1, host2 see only LUN 2, etc.

If the old "LUN Security" option is used then the host wwnn/wwpn is added in the LUN Security list for the array port it was enabled on. If the "LUN Management" option is installed, we can then enable 'Host Group Security' on the controller port. Once it is enabled we can create multiple Host Storage Groups per port. Usually one would assign a single host or cluster to each HSG. If one was using iSCSI Proxy Initiator, then all iSCSI hosts could be grouped into the same HSG.

There is a thing called "Mapping Mode". Basically allows you to do LUN mapping. This can be enabled or disabled. With "LUN Security" you might leave mapping mode disabled, but with "LUN Management" the customer would typically enable it, otherwise each Host Storage Group would see the same LUNs, sort of defeating the purpose of having Host Storage Groups.

Thanks for the info, I now get the LUN avaialble to the cisco, but I now have a login problem....

I am using version 3.1.2 of the iSCSI driver in W2K Profesional, and 3.5.2 on the 5428.

I am also looking at turning on the Trespass feature, but I think I will also need to change the port config on the HDS to TRESPASS mode, can you confirm this ??

thanks..
