Adding additional hard drive to server

Can i add an additional drive to my C220 M4 server while its still running. It is a ESXI Host version 6.5. I am not adding it to the raid just adding it as a standalone. So hot addable?

Greetings.

The drive bays are hot plug.

If you are using a MegaRaid controller, you can use the CIMC interface, storage tab to confirm the drive is recognized.

Most of the newer megaraid controllers will allow you to configure the drives as unconfigured good (so they can go into a raid volume), or a jbod mode, which is presented to the OS as single disk.

If you add a single drive as a single raid 0 (assuming your raid controller has battery or supercap backed cache), then you will likely get better performance for write speeds than in standalone/jbod mode.
