Boot From SAN - CISCO C240 M4 - Windows 2012 R2

Hi Team,

Below is our setup.

- CISCO C240M4

-Qlogic FC HBA 8 GB 2*2 Port

-SAN Storage.

We have enabled boot from SAN on all the qlogic 4 adapter of CISCO C240M4 Server and assign LUN ID 0 with 100 GB. Everything goes well until the Windows partition screen but at this point, we were getting error like

"The Amount of free space on the selected partition is smaller than XXXX MB. We recommended making it at least YYYY MB or selecting another partition"

Then we gone through the below discussion,

https://supportforums.cisco.com/discussion/12031076/boot-lun-size-w2012-installation

As per this, we must have to keep boot LUN size more than the server physical memory + Page file. We tried to ignore this alert and click on next but unable to go forward. Can anyone pl let me know if this is documented somewhere on CISCO website? Finally, we had to increase the LUN size and then it worked for us. But this is something strange.

Regards,

Suhag.

Hi Suhag

I think this is a MSFT issue, nothing to do with UCS ?

see eg. http://kblnrz.blogspot.ch/2014/10/windows-server-2012-r2-booting-from-san.html
