Folks,
I am slightly confussed about the fabic login procedure. Does someone have a good link that explains the fabric login process in great detail.
Is FLOGI the first step followed by PLOGI?
Thanks

Yes, a FLOGI is first and is followed by the PLOGI. One of the best ways to see this is with the fcanalyzer function in the MDS. Setup a new vsan as a test and in one telnet session, shut the port to the HBA. In another telnet session, issue a config and then at the config prompt, try this: fcanalyzer local display-filter mdshdr.vsan==0x
If you see something about eth2 then you have done it correctly. Then issue a no shut on the port and watch the login process. This is a simple fcanalyzer command and there are more filters that can be applied, but this is enough to get you started. There is a write option in the fcanalyzer that writes the trace out to a ethereal file that can be (t)ftp'd off to a PC and viewed with ethereal.

Excellent answers!
What follows after PLOGI?? do you have like a chart that would give me all the steps a device has to go through before fully registering to the fabric.
Again, many thanks for your response.

I would recommend the book "Fibre Channel for SANs" by Alan Benner (ISBN: 0071374132) for an in-depth look at the FC protocol. It also happens to be on Cisco's recommended reading list for the CCIE written exam.
