MDS 9506 does not synchronize

Hi,

I am facing a problem with MDS 9506. It doesn't synchronize with NTP server. The output that displays after inserting the command sh ntp peer-status does not shows the asterix (*) symbol next to the ntp server that should synchronize.

Also, after issuing the command sh ntp status the outcome is:

Distributinon: Disabled

Last Operation State: No session

Does anyone has information on what to take into consideration?

Thanks

John

Hi John

Are you sure that you have proper IP connectivity MDS - NTP server, (any firewall in between ?)

Hi Walter,

I have connected the MDS with a 7k Nexus switch and the 7k has the role of NTP server. There is no firewall in between and again it does not synchronize.

Yes, I have IP connectivity.

Do you have anything to propose?

Thanks

John

Hi John

Does your MDS have internet access ? if yes, I would try to connect to a external NTP server ?

Are you sure your NTP server on the N7k is working correctly ?

Walter.

Hi Walter,

The MDS is getting NTP services from the N7k.

The first implementation was the MDS to synchronize with a router.

The N7k is getting NTP information from the router that we are connected in order to have access on the Internet.

The N7k is synchronized properly as the N5k.  Only the MDS does not.

What do you think?

Thanks

John

Hi John

Was the MDS previously synching properly with the router ?

Do I understand your configuration ok ?

N7k synch with router

N5k synch with router or N7k ?

MDS should synch with N7k ?

Please post output of

Nexus_7000#show ntp peers
Nexus_7000#show ntp peer-status

Maybe the issue is related with cascading NTP servers, see eg. (very old)
