Hi

I have been told by EMC to find the WWN for the 9506 MDS switch. How would i find this? I thought WWN was port based. is there a WWN for the sup modules or the Chassis?

Thanks in advance

Ahh, Ok, so this for licensing? Then the SWWN does not go into the license. Rather, the command is: show license host-id. Much different number than a wwn.

There are wwn's that are on the switch's side of each port and is known as the FWWN. There is also a switch WWN that is an identifier for the switch. That can gotten with this command:

show wwn switch.

Is this a new command in the OS. I did not find this on the CLI or is this hidden?. I was told by EMC that the command for this is "Show switch summary" but this was wrong.

thanks in advance

No, this is a pretty old command. Here is one from a lab:

lab9216# show wwn switch

Switch WWN is 20:00:00:0d:ec:27:00:c0

If you are having trouble, can you post your show ver and show wwn switch results?

I tried this command and sent it to EMC, they told me that this is not the correct WWN. this is the show version.

this is the show wwn switch:

Switch WWN is 20:00:00:0d:ec:24:8a:c0

This is what we gave them and they said its wrong.

Well, that is the WWN for the switch. There is another WWN for the actual port which is known as Fabric WWN. This can be seen in the show interface. But if EMC can't tell you to tell the forum what you need, EMC should open a case with our TAC and try to figure it. What is it that they are looking to do with this information? What is the job that needs to be accomplished?

We asked them for the following:

1-the ssi image for the ssm module

2-License key for the enterprise package.

And the rest is what I wrote in the top. I am not sure why he said that he cannot register the switch for the license.

Thanks in advance

Ok. I will try this and see what happens. I will post another reply if the problem is not solved. Thanks alot
