Folks,

I recently purchased a SN5420 router. I have a few questions:

1) can i use the ethernet interface to connect the router to a WIN2k server using iscsi drivers??

2) I want a cheap FC capable array so that i can test the iscsi to FC conversion by the router. could someone recommend a cheap solution for FC disk storage.

Thanks

If this is a SN5420 and not a SN5428 it can be used for iSCSI via the 2 GigE ports, issue you will have is only the older non RFC iSCSI dirvers from Cisco will work with the SN5420. see http://www.cisco.com/en/US/partner/products/hw/ps4159/ps2160/products_qanda_item09186a00801143ca.shtml#ten

for some Q & A on compatability with what iSCSI drivers.

As for cheap storage you can use a JBOD with FC disk drives. see www.JMR.com for examples

If i have to connect the gigabit ethernet interface of a windows 2000 machine directly to a SN 5420 router can i do that (bypassing the switch) or do i have to use a special kind of sc connector (fiber optic) cable.

Thanks,

Use Multimode Fiber cable with SC-SC connectors.
