Hi, we have a site with 3 Edge's.
Have any had problem when the Edge has reach the maximum connections(250)? Like the user had problem to logon with roaming profiles. "Windows cannot locate the server copy of your roaming profile and is attempting to log you on with your local profile" /Kenneth

Kenneth,
In WAFS 3.0, each Edge is limited to 250 concurrent CIFS sessions. Unfortunately, the behavior when the session limit is reached is not graceful - client sessions above 250 will be rejected.
Depending on the platform you are using, the session limits will be increased in WAAS 4.0.

We try to solve it with more Edge, but still we got the problem when a Edge is full. It seems that the WCCP protocol does not handle the situation when a Edge is full and redirect to the other Edges.

Kenneth,
WCCP will not redirect traffic to another WAFS Edge when the CIFS session limit is reached.

Thanks, then we have to wait for version 4.

Hi Kenneth,
In WAFS 3.x you can accommodate more than 250 sessions by using multiple appliances and changing the WCCP hashing method to be done based on client source port rather than client IPs (which is the default). Also, you should look at reducing the idle session time out on your file server to reduce the number of inactive sessions (default on Windows is 15min and NetApp 30min)
In WAAS 4.0 the session limit has been increased up to 2500 sessions, depending on platform. WAAS 4.0 is available for download from CCO. Please note that it will require some changes to the way the WAE device is deployed as it is geared to accelerate any TCP traffic in addition to the WAFS functionality. MAke sure you read the WAAS 4.0 deployment documentation and plan ahead before upgrading.

Hi and thanks to you all,
I and our company have started a project to upgrade to WAAS 4.0 during this autumn.

Zach,
I'm currently involved with the deployment of 8 WAE-512 devices, with the intention of running WAAS 4.0 when it becomes available. Will this platform have the same limitation? Some of the sites top out at ~350 CIFS sessions.
Also, where can I find information about hardware sizing for a WAAS solution? Cisco's documentation for WAAS seems to be pretty sparse at the moment.
Thanks,
Devin Kinch

Devin,
Detailed documentation, including sizing information, will be available once the product is released. Before that time, please contact your Cisco Account Team for additional information.
regards,
Zach
