Ok so here is the situation.
We are doing a core infrastructure upgrade on our system. We are not a big organization (600 - 700) so we run a stack of 4 3750G switches as our core switch.
We are purchasing two new Nexus 3524 switches to act as our iSCSI storage network switches and are going to tie them into our 3750G data core. The following are the switch models:
2 x WS-C3750G-12S-S
2 x WS-C3750G-24TS-S1U
The storage network and servers will be running at 10 G. Now I am aware that 10G is not supported on the 3750G. I am also aware that SFP+ ports are backwards compatible to SFP ports but not vice versa.
We are planning on port channeling several 1G ports on our 12S switches to accomodate the speed of the storage network. The Multi-mode fibre transceiver model used for this is the GLC-SX-MM.
So here is the question. Cisco tests each transceiver your plug in against its approved list of venders/hardware. If the transceiver is part of this list then the device is deemed fully compatible and fires up. If it is not however, it will error disable the port and you have to run a special command to bypass.
I would like to know what vendors are in the approved list by Cisco that are 3rd party. Is it just Cisco transceivers or are there others? Reason why I ask is obviously the price difference. I am not talking about suppliers that say they sell geniune equipment. I am more talking about companies like Proline, C2G, Amer, etc.
Edit: My understanding with support on this is if the Transceiver is considered a possible problem, Cisco TAC will ask you to swap it with a new Transceiver or Cisco branded Transceiver. However, they will still support the switch you are using.
