Boot Sequencing on Catalyst 2960-X switch

I am using C-2960X series switch on my production environment.

I have uploaded the following image from tftp c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E9.bin on the switch and made the boot sequence done by executing following commands.

boot-start-marker
boot system flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E9.bin >> New uploaded image
boot system flash:c2960x-universalk9-mz.152-7.E7.bin  >>> Existing Image
boot-end-marker

But when i see the running config there is no boot sequence present as above. for other device like ISR router i can see boot sequencing is working as expected.

Hello @tanmoymm91 ,

older switches, like the 2960, don't show the boot sequence in the config. You can check the boot sequence with the show boot command:

Switch#sho boot

BOOT path-list : flash:2960-lanbasek9-mz.150-2.SE4.bin

Config file : flash:/config.text

Private Config file : flash:/private-config.text

Enable Break : no

Manual Boot : no

HELPER path-list :

Auto upgrade : yes

NVRAM/Config file

buffer size: 65536

HI ,

I am using C1000 catalyst switch.

Here is the output, but i already done the boot sequence with flash:c1000-universalk9-mz.152-7.E9.bin as first choice and flash:c1000-universalk9-mz.152-7.E7.bin as second choice , but i am not seeing this sequnce how can i confirm before doing the reload to make the latest version ( flash:c1000-universalk9-mz.152-7.E9.bin) updated on the switch.

show boot
BOOT path-list : flash:c1000-universalk9-mz.152-7.E7.bin
Config file : flash:/config.text
Private Config file : flash:/private-config.text
Enable Break : yes

HELPER path-list :

Hi @tanmoymm91

I believe that the only way to check this would be by looking at the boot start and end markers, as the switch will load the IOS in the order that these are set between these.

I do know that in routers you can use the "show bootvar" command, that shows the order of the boot statement, but unfortunately this command is not present on switches.

Hope the above helps.

Kind regards,

Joao

Try removing the second boot statement, save the config and issue again the show boot command. Share with us the results.
