Hi
The layer 2 network could be more easy, assign to robust switches to be the root and back root on the first floor (example). I dont recommend to cascade the switches.
There are recommended designs for layer 2 networks, attached you will a basic example to connect the switch and avoid any loop or complex configuration, in current switch models you can create stacks in order to see several switches like just one. The attached design shows 2 switches on the distribution layer in order to be the root and back root, the access switches will have 2 interfaces, one for the primary root and one connected to back root. The access switches at the first floor will use the same scheme. Between the root devices you could have etherchannel to support transit traffic. Also you could use layer 3 connection between the root switches to the core layer.
I recommend align the scheme to three layered model or Cisco campus network design.
