Cisco 3750X RSTP sending BPDU Terminal Monitor Output

mattrung01

Level 1

I am getting the below output from my terminal monitor and am having a hard time trying to figure out what it means. The ports that this is configured on have BPDUguard and portfast enabled. It is happening on every connected port on the switch. Any help would be appreciated. There are no switches connected to any of these ports. Thanks.

Hi,

These debugs are absolutely normal and correct. Even ports configured as PortFast ports and protected with BPDU Guard continue to send BPDUs, and this is exactly what the debugs are saying. The only ports that would not be sending out BPDUs would be ports configured with BPDU Filter. However, you are most probably not interested in that feature.

PortFast and/or BPDU Guard-enabled ports must continue sending out BPDUs because even though these ports are considered to be edge ports, there is no guarantee that some user will cause a loop. Such a loop must be detectable, which is why BPDUs must continue being sent out even on edge ports.

Best regards,
Peter

Thank you, is there a way to filter this out so I only see messages for link up down, etc.

Hi,

I suppose you want to simply deactivate the debugging that is running. To do that, simply enter the undebug all command in the privileged EXEC mode.

Best regards,
Peter
