I am looking to define a locally-resolvable name on my routers - the IP that this name resolves to can change from router to router. I'm not looking to set the router's own hostname - but a device name, similar to what's in the local hosts file of a *Nix or Windows computer. I'm not looking to define a local DNS Server if I can help it (as these routers may touch other services). Right now, in my lab environment, the routers in question are running 15.4(3) of IOS - if I need a different version, please let me know.
