Deleting flash.dat from 4507 returns error

Can someone clarify why the below does not work on my 4507? I want to get rid of the vlan config.

Switch#delete vlan.dat

Delete filename [vlan.dat]?

Delete bootflash:vlan.dat? [confirm]

%Error deleting bootflash:vlan.dat ()

Thanks. From there I set the bootvar and it was OK.

Later I will try to to do the vlan.dat flash erase again and see if I can reproduce the behavior.
