Hi chandu,
This term refer:
It just mean that through which interface vlan you want to manage the device .

Just for manage the device nothing else .

--------

Just to clarify and clear the understanding.

Before this interface router shows the current list of phy. interface ports on router. All ports shows NO under  OK and down under protocol because first time u used this router. This two terms suggets that specified ports are not configured and they hav no active protocol bound to them so u can manage this router. This is the current state of physical ports nd these are not functional.

For a router interface to be fully functional, two condition must be met: 1 -Interface need to be turned on(By default all are turned off)

2 - Configure a protocol on the desired interface

Then comes our main confusing line:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

Enter interface name used to connect to the management network from the above interface summary:

--------------------------------------------------------------------

then chhoose any one interface from router through which u want to manage the router and assign the ip address. ......etc.

Because of managemnet of router, u must config atleast one interface.

thats it.

---

Hope it helps.

Hi Chandu,

port which will be connected to management, or  just the interface which will be used for management ? example: 2960 setup:

Enter interface name used to connect to the

#

management network from the above interface summary: vlan1

This  is basically the logical VLAN that is defined on the swtich, which will  be used for management, and not the physical interface.. for eg if your  switch has all ports configured for VLAN 10, you would enter the  management vlan as vlan 10..

This is the interafce through u want to managen the switch

Interface vlan x
