Hi guys ,
I have a issue here with HSRP , redundancy not working , what is happening if primary switch get reloaded traffic is not shifting on secondary one and there is a outage of 10mins around ,once primary got up all traffic found working fine via Primary switch .below are the logs after reload -
Log Buffer (4096 bytes):
SRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan34 Grp 34 state Listen -> Active
*Sep 14 17:47:38.491 india: %HSRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan41 Grp 41 state Listen -> Active
*Sep 14 17:47:38.519 india: %HSRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan4 Grp 4 state Listen -> Active
*Sep 14 17:47:38.663 india: %HSRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan54 Grp 54 state Listen -> Active
*Sep 14 17:47:38.735 india: %HSRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan43 Grp 43 state Listen -> Active
*Sep 14 17:47:38.767 india: %HSRP-5-STATECHANGE: Vlan11 Grp 11 state Listen -> Active
here it says vlan group state change from listen to Active where I understand normally it sud be Standby to Active .
There are 60 groups configured and all are with same priority on Primary switch -
like in primary sw->>

I do not have any clue why hsrp did not worked at the time of reboot of primary switch and n/w got impacted .

Hi Sagar,
What was the HSRP state of the secondary when the primary went down? Do we have a sh standby br or similar output from that time period?
Also, can you paste the configs of the physical interfaces connecting the two?

Hi Kapil ,
unfortunately we do not have tht duration logs from secondary sw .here is the logs for interfaces connecting two -

Do you have any logs on the second switch^
09-21-2011 06:59 AM
Please take a look at this paragraph from the following cisco document about troubleshooting HSRP
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/tech/tk648/tk362/technologies_tech_note09186a0080094afd.shtml
In order to minimize network traffic, only the active and the standby routers send periodic HSRP messages after the protocol has completed the election process. Additional routers in the HSRP group remain in the Listen state. If the active router fails, the standby router takes over as the active router. If the standby router fails or becomes the active router, another router is elected as the standby router.
It seems like you had already configured an active and standby device so that other switch was in listening state. I would probably remove the preempt from the switch with priority 110.
Can you post some debug standby events so we can see how they are talking to each other?
Thanks, RG

here are the debug standby events -

According to your logs, you have multiple IP addresses associated with the same group. For example:
*Sep 22 04:02:53.479 india: HSRP: Vl32 Grp 32 ARP src 10.229.162.151 tgt 10.229.162.5, reply with mac 0000.0c07.ac20
*Sep 22 04:02:54.203 india: HSRP: Vl32 Grp 32 ARP src 10.229.162.161 tgt 10.229.162.5, reply with mac 0000.0c07.ac20
*Sep 22 04:03:03.723 india: HSRP: Vl32 Grp 32 ARP src 10.229.162.192 tgt 10.229.162.5, reply with mac 0000.0c07.ac20
10.229.162.5 is your standby ip address. You also have .151, .161 and .192 as part of VI32. If you have only two switches, why so many IP addresses?
Thanks, RG.
