Hi Experts,
This might be a stupid question and it's not relevant to anything I'm doing right now, I'm just curious about it and would like to understand it.
Why RIP being a Routing protocol requires the use of a Transport Layer protocol like UDP?
OSPF and EIGRP uses their own IP protocol to do whatever they need between routers, effectively on a hop-by-hop basis.
If we are all just talking between routers in a link-local scope, where does the need for a Transport Layer header comes at?
Maybe I'm missing something I couldn't find online.
Thank you for enlightening me!
Paula.
