Hello,

I've renumbered a switch to be the master of a stack using switch stack-member-number priority new-priority-value

Does the do I need to reboot the stack for it to take effect?

Thanks

Yes,

a new election will kick in when you reset the entire stack OR when you power down or remove the current master.

HI Andy,

yes you are right!

If you changed the priority of the switches and want to see the effect then you to reload the whole stack.

so please reload to see the change.

Please rate if it helps.

Thanks what process should I follow when removing a switch from a stack and changing it's number?  I am using 3750's 12-port

For example we have this:

Switch#  Role       Mac Address          Priority     Version     State

----------------------------------------------------------

1         Member     0000.0000.0000        0             0       Removed

*2         Master      0019.e7d1.1234        2             0       Ready

switch 1 provision ws-c3750g-12s

switch 2 provision ws-c3750g-12s

Switch 1 has been removed and they have put all the cables into switch 2 and all is working fine.  To tidy things up we I need woudl liek ot renumer the switch to switch one and remove member 1.  However I don't wont to loase the config.

As the switch is still provisioned with switch 1, should I:

  1. Copy the config from the ports on gig 2/0/1 - 12 to 1/0/1 - 12 so it is preped
  2. Run "switch 2 renumber 1"
  3. Reload the switch
  4. Run "no switch 2 provision ws-c3750g-12s"

Thanks
