Hi,
I am very new to the cisco community and I am all lost.
I need help installing the usb serial controller on my windows 7 machine. I would like to set up my 3750 switch in Putty, but when i connect it to the computer, the device manager says it's missing the usb controller.
I downloaded this usb console driver off the cisco website, but it's still not working.
I would appreciate if someone could direct me to the right path.
Thank you in advance

Hi Sandra,
Usually the USB-Serial adapters are manufactured by third party companies, I have had similar issues like you mentioned, I suggest search the driver on google using the brand or serial number. Cisco devices don't use drivers, the drivers belong to the adapters.
The brand new adapters include a CD with many drivers have you tried to install them?
Check this link:

Thank you for your reply.
This 3rd adapter don't have a serial number or info I can look up.(A friend gave it to me...)
I also have a usb console driver that I received with the switch (bought it off ebay). Device manager says it's on com4 but putty doesn't recognize it. I get the black window in Putty.
Thank you again

Hi Sandra,
I would like to recommend the adapter I bought a time ago and it works perfectly:
https://www.amazon.com/Plugable-Adapter-Prolific-PL2303HX-Chipset/dp/B00425S1H8/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1496065437&sr=8-1&keywords=pl2303-db9
Hope it is useful
