Hello,
I am planning to expand an existing Layer 2 network from 8 switch nodes to 20 (Stratix 8000/IE3000)
The existing network is a 7 switch RING with a spur to a control room running Rapid PVST+ STP with default timers.
I am planning to add an additional 12 node RING with a spur connection off to the same control center switch.
This is all on one common VLAN. The root bridge (Primary) is the node of the ring that has the spur connection to the control room (CP710-SW1)
My concern is when I connect this new spur and ring, what will happen to the existing and final network as far as STP convergence and performance? I would like to keep the root bridge where it is at but could changes if required.
I have read the RPVST+ diameter max is 7 hops. Clearly this can be exceeded in this design.
Should the max-age value be adjusted to compensate? I seem to be finding conflicting and differing opinions on the web and the Cisco docs are really not that clear to me.
Can someone help me with some input and recommendations on this design?
The attachment provided is the existing 7 node ring/spur connection. Like I said, we are adding another spur to a 12 node ring.
Thank you!
