  • Do not apply power to the new stack member.
  • Connect the stack cables.
  • Power up the new stack members.

If you use your method, there will be MORE disruption to clients connected to switch 3 because you need to reboot switch 4/3 TWICE.

With my method, your disruption is minimized to just ONE disruption.

Your choice.

will the stack detect the 48 port switch and allow me to config all its ports or will it still remember only 24 ports ?

Let us presume that your 24-port is switch 3 in the stack.  So you can remove the configuration of the 24 port by using this command:

config t

no switch 3 provision WS-C2960S-24PS

switch 3 provision WS-C2960S-48LPS

<You can start configuring your ports EVEN BEFORE you connect the 48-port switch to your stack>

end

Thanks

the stack contains 3 switches

could i provison the new switch as number 4 and config the ports

then remove switch 3 and convert switch 4 to number 3?

OK

but i gain time configing the ports before (multiple vlans)

as you say ... my choice
