I need to stack new C3750X Switches together with older C3750G Switches.
In that case the switches should have all identical software images.
I tried it with the versions 122-53.SE2 but it didn`t work.
The logging describes every time a major_version_mismatch.
On the C3750X I have to use the versions C3750e-ipbasek9-mz.122-53.SE2 or the universal one (both didn`t works on the C3750G).
For the C3750G I have to use the version C3750-ipbasek9-mz.122-53.SE2.
Both Software Versions are shown as 12.2(53)SE2 on all switches that i was using.
Only if I stack just C3750X Models together or C3750G Models together everything is working fine.
But Cisco describes, that the C3750X Models are downwards compatible.
Is anybody there, who knows how or if it works.
Thanks for all answers.

Hi,
Please do a show version on both 3750G and 3750X and ensure they have same licence level. This is a must for the switches to be stackable.
Cheers,

Hello Shashank,
thanks for your answer.
(I´m a colleauge of tziebarth - working on the same problem)
The 3750x shows:
#show license
Index 1 Feature: ipservices
Period left: 0 minute 0 second
Index 2 Feature: ipbase
Period left: 0 minute 0 second
Index 3 Feature: lanbase
Period left: Life time
License Type: Permanent
License State: Active, In Use
License Priority: Medium
License Count: Non-Counted
The Catalyst 3750G-24TS-S shows:
show license
%License not supported on this device
Sh ver doesnt give any information about license.
Can you give us a hint were we can find further information about this?
Thanks for your help!

Hi Fredric,
Your 3750X switch has lan base license as active. You would need to acquire the license on the 3750G to lan base to match the 3750X.
Below is a link that explains this.
http://www.cisco.com/en/US/prod/collateral/switches/ps5718/ps6406/qa_c67-578933.html#wp9000308
Q. Are mixed stacks supported?
A. It depends. The Cisco StackWise and StackWise Plus solutions are flexible enough to allow you to. Stack any Cisco Catalyst 3000
switch in the same stack (hardware mixed stack) .One exception is the new LAN Base models being introduced with the Catalyst3750-X
and 3560-X Series, which can stack only with other LAN Base models.
Hope this helps,
Shashank

You can not stack lanbase with ipbase or ip services.
L2 only can only stacks with L2
L3 can stack with any L3
The L3 (ipbase/ipservices) can stack with any 3750G or E since they all are L3.
But if you realy need to get going at once, right now, then you can start up the switches with a trial license, that if i am not misremembering is good for 60 days wich will give you enough time to buy a ipbase license.
Good luck

Thanks again for your help.
I´m just asking myself:
Why is there no notification about missing license on console?
We just see "All possible members have been added to the stack..." and "Stack-Ports down"
If there is no technical problem, a litte output like "wrong license - stack features disabled" or whatever
could have saved many hours.

The frase "all possible members" means every member that is able to be added have been added.
what it does not say is X switches is not possible to add to this stack due to licensing mismatch.
I too think its quite cryptic, and trust me I have been there too.
and to understand how to get the testlicense up and running was not easy either.
took me about 1 day to find out how to enable the test license.
They sort of forgot to mention that the command has different switches in config mode and enable mode
it took me some time to figure that out.
good luck and thanx for the rating !
