unable to upgrade ios on 2650 router

Hi all,

i have 2650 xm router that  went to romon mode as shown below

i check the settings by  confreg they are correct

rommon 12 > confreg

           Configuration Summary
   (Virtual Configuration Register: 0x2102)
enabled are:
load rom after netboot fails
console baud: 9600
boot: image specified by the boot system commands
      or default to: cisco2-C2600

i did reset command as shown few times  then finally i get the ios back

now i was trying to upgrade ios from c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-25b.bin  to  new version   c2600-adventerprisek9-mz.124-25d.bin

i deleted the old ios as shown below

2650XM#sh flash

Mahesh,

A router booting into ROMMON for no apparent reason has to be inspected very closely whether there are no hardware problems. The 2600XM series is old enough for some hardware problems to show.

Regarding your issue using the tftp command, according to the output you have provided, the router was not able to communicate with the TFTP server. Can you ping its IP address? Is the TFTP server running? Does it accept connections from your IP address? The "timed out" error message refers to a basic connectivity issue between your router and the TFTP server so you must first make sure that you can reach the IP address under which the TFTP server resides. Let's focus on this in the first step.

Hello Mahesh,

Like Peter told you I will try to setup the IP and SUBNET etc again.

I had the same problem with a router that I purchased on e-bay , the information bellow recovered my problem , I hope this will also help you :

Please key in "SET" to see what you get and also like Peter told you try to ping your TFTP server.

If it still does not work open manually the PORT 69 on your computer, I got this problem on a WINDOWS 7 COMPUTER , this is why I use a MAC this day's

I hope this will work , I know the feeling that you have , I have got the same some mounts ago , do not panic yet , we will help you (if it is not a hardware fault)

Hi,

Your IP must be different from TFTP server IP which is not the case here.

Enter command squeeze flash: to reclaim space used by older IOS which was deleted.

thanks for the reply

i changed   boot  from option 0 which was ROM  monitor  to  option 2 and then used xmodem command then i was able to download new ios.
