Hi All
I have just upgraded some Cisco 3850-24T-S switches in a stack from an old version of code to version to 3.06.06
I ran the software install command and all went well until reboot.
I had to visit the site and found they were not booting.
I am getting an error saying
Mainboard hardware authentication failed. Abort init
I havr tried everything, booting from old packages.conf00- file, emergency-install
All leads back to the same screen.
What is the issue? I have read up that these need to be RMA? Is this true
I could do with an answer on urgent basis
Thanks

Hi Carl,
Since the switch is down, I recommend you open a P1 ticket with Cisco and have it RMA unless they can provide a different solution.

Carl,
Please console into the switch and reboot. We want to see the entire error message.
With only this line to go with, I'd say this is CSCvc72748.

Hi
We have had to ship back to our supplier for RMA.
As a Note, these switches were running at 100% cpu due to the fed process, I am wondering if this is why or just a general manufacturing fault?

Carl,
Most of the time high CPU utilization is a software issue and not so much hardware but you never know. In your case, it appeared that the software you loaded would not work with the hardware. So, most likely a hardware issue. When you get the new switch, make sure to monitor the CPU and memory for a few weeks to make they are working as expected.
Good Luck!
