allow external users call internal endpoints via IP (VCS-E)

All of out endpoints (cisco and polycom) are connected to our VCS-C >> VCS-E and dial out via H323 and SIP. We also receive SIP calls from the outside world. We now have the need for external endpoints to dial us via IP. How do they call our endpoints and come through our expressway via H323/IP?

For example:

External customer needs to call endpoint 5551987@somedomain.com. How do they dial this endpoint via IP?

Note: none of our endpoints have external IP addresses.

Thanks

RB

You need to enable ENUM dialling. Here is a cisco guide on how to do this:

Does the external endpoints support H323 or SIP dialing, or just IP?

  • If H323, they should be able to dial either alias@IP or alias@domain.
  • If SIP, they should be able to dial alias@domain.

The alias@domain addresses will depend on if you have your DNS records setup correctly for your VCS Expressway.

If they must dial via IP, and IP only, you could setup the VCS Expressway with a fallback alias (Configuration > DIal Plan > Configuration).  The external endpoint will then just dial the IP of the VCS Expressway, and it will be redirected to fallback alias.  This alias can point to any endpoint registered to your VCS.
