Pi-hole is not a computing meme, but rather a real and popular open-source network-level advertisement and internet tracker blocking application.  Pi-hole helps users control and filter the ads and tracking services that are prevalent on the internet.

Pi-hole works as a DNS sinkhole. It intercepts domain requests from devices on your network and checks them against a blocklist of known ad-serving domains. If a domain is on the blocklist, Pi-hole prevents the request from reaching the ad server, effectively blocking the ad.

In addition to blocking ads, Pi-hole can also block known domains that track your online behavior, helping to enhance your online privacy. One of the key advantages of Pi-hole is that it blocks ads and trackers at the network level. This means that all devices connected to your network benefit from the ad and tracker blocking, whether it's a computer, smartphone, smart TV, or any other device.

Pi-hole provides a web-based interface where you can manage the blocklists, view statistics, and customize settings. Here is a sample display of a Pi-hole dashboard

Pi-hole is open-source software and is distributed under the GNU General Public License. This means it's free to use and can be modified or extended by the community. Pi-hole has an active and supportive user community, which contributes to maintaining blocklists and providing help and guidance for users. It can be installed on various Linux distributions, including Raspberry Pi OS, making it a cost-effective and efficient solution for network-wide ad blocking.
