Cannot Migrate data with 'Migrate Subscriber Data' Tool

lcarulli

We are using MSD version 1.1.80 to aatempt to migrate from a Voice Mail only environment to a UM environment. When we run the tool and select the 'migrate data' option we get a dialog box that states " The logged in user does not have 'send as' and 'recieve as' rights to access mailboxes on:" it then lists a bunch of numbers and letters. We try to use the tool without the option and we get no errors but the migration never happens.

couple things - first, be sure to get the latest version from its home page here:

http://www.ciscounitytools.com/App_MigrateSubscriberData.htm

current version is 1.2.3.

Second, what's your setup? Ex2000? Ex55? Mixed?

The dialog box there is usually correct - it's checking specifically for SA/RA rights on the logged in account against the mailstores necessary to move the messages between for the user - if it's kicking that up then the account you're logged in as most likely doesn't have that right. The same checks are made in DiRT and MSM among others. Check the help file for details on this. The most common mistake here is to assume that because the account you're logged in as has administration rights in the domain that it's all that's necessary - can't tell you how many sites I've run into where that was the case...

The account was given the rights to the server we are trying to merge to with the permissions wizard. Does the accoiunt need rights to all the servers in the organization

we need rights to the server you're moving _from_ as well, of course.

also, once you get the latest version and check your rights, if it fails again send the logs it creates along to me and I'll pass it to the engineer who works on that tool. You can email me at lindborg at cisco dot com.

I have the latest version and I have checked the rights. Still no good.

I have just sent you the logs.

Thanks

The logs you sent Jeff all show version 1.1.80 which has a known defect if it is run on any version earlier then 4.0(4). Your earlier post indicate that you upgraded, it's possible that you sent the logs from the original install of MSD and not the ones from the new version. Original MSD is installed in \Commserver\Utilities\MigrateSubscriberData but unless you overrode the installation directory during setup of version 1.02.0003 then it would be installed in \Program Files\MigrateSubscriberData. Please check this, you can also check it via ToolsDepot by right-clicking on the MSD and selecting Properties. This will show you where the MSD is located that the ToolsDepot is launching.

If you are running Unity version 4.0(3) or earlier you must upgrade the MSD to 1.02.0003.

As far as the accounts Send As/Receive As rights please download the Directory Access Diagnostics utility (DAD) from www.ciscounitytools.com. This has a Mailstore Access Test that uses a similar method as MSD does to check SA/RA rights. You must log onto the Unity server with the same account configured to run AvDSAD. If this shows no rights problems, then attempt the migration using this account and if 1.02.0003 is still failing then please send me the following logs (smilliga at cisco dot com):

MSD logs from the MigrateSubscriberData\Logs directory.

SARA*.TXT from the MigrateSubscriberData directory.

DirectoryAccessDiagnostics.log from the temp directory for the account used by AvDSAD (see the help file for more information)

If it works for this account then it will probably work for your other accounts if you select not to migrate messages (see the Options -> Merge Messages setting).

I have downloadedthe latest MSD and I still have the issue. I ran the dsd and it said I had all the rights.

I have emailed you the log files.
